Solar Aerospace and Defence Limited (SADL) has successfully conducted the Rudrastra trial at the Pokharan Firing Range. The Rudrastra UAV, a hybrid VTOL system, met Indian Army performance standards during this landmark test on 11th June 2025.
Rudrastra Trial Demonstrates UAV Performance and Endurance
SADL engineered Rudrastra to perform vertical takeoff and landing, precision targeting, and extended endurance missions. The trial began with a smooth vertical lift, immediately followed by a stable transition to horizontal flight. It maintained a consistent real-time video link throughout the flight.
UAV Completes 170 km Range with Precision Strike
The UAV Rudrastra covered a mission radius exceeding 50 km. It successfully loitered over the target zone and returned. The total range crossed 170 km, including time spent circling the target area. Estimated endurance reached 1.5 hours.
Precision-Guided Warhead Achieves Tactical Success
Engineers deployed a precision-guided anti-personnel warhead during the flight. The UAV dropped it from medium altitude. It created a low-height airburst and caused lethal area damage. This met tactical effectiveness standards defined by Army evaluators.
Mission Flexibility Remains a Key Strength
The UAV adapted to shifting conditions mid-mission. It continued stable communication, adjusted altitude, and maintained tracking. It returned to its original location, confirming mission flexibility and operational reliability.
SADL Expands UAV Capabilities After Bhargavastra Success
Just a month earlier, SADL had tested Bhargavastra, a counter-drone system. The system uses micro-rockets to eliminate drone swarms. Trials took place at Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur. Senior Army Air Defence officers supervised those trials directly.
