Ashlesha is a family of 3D Low Level Light Weight Radars (LLLWR) developed by DRDO’s LRDE for volumetric low-altitude air surveillance in difficult terrain, spanning two generations — the man-portable Mk-I and the more capable, vehicle-mounted Mk-II.[1]
Ashlesha Mk-I is a quadripod-mounted, battery-powered, S-band 3D surveillance radar built for rapid deployment on plains, deserts, mountain tops, high-altitude regions and even urban high-rise vantage points. It uses multiple beams with electronic scanning in elevation to detect and track a mix of low- and medium-altitude air targets including helicopters, fighters and UAVs, and can operate either networked with other sensors or stand-alone for independent operations.[1][2]
Ashlesha Mk-II is a more capable 3D Low Level Surveillance Radar (LLSR) built as a rotating, semi-active phased array using high-efficiency solid-state transmit/receive modules (TRMs). Configured across two vehicles for cross-country mobility (with a single-vehicle configuration also available), it performs volumetric surveillance, detection, tracking and IFF of helicopters, UAVs, RPVs and fixed-wing aircraft from as low as 20 metres up to 12 km altitude, with an instrumented range of approximately 120 km in the S-band.[2]
