The Shardul-class are large amphibious warfare (tank landing) ships built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers for the Indian Navy, an evolution of the earlier Magar-class design with increased capacity and updated armament.[1]
Shardul-class ships displace 5,650 tons, measuring 125 m in length with a 17.5 m beam and 4 m draught, achieving a top speed of 16 knots. The class carries a complement of 156 personnel (11 officers, 145 sailors) and has capacity for 11 main battle tanks, 10 other armoured vehicles, and up to 500 troops, transported ashore via four onboard Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP).[1]
Armament includes two WM-18 rocket launchers and four CRN-91 (Naval 30 mm Medak) anti-aircraft guns, plus man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS) for close-in self-defence — giving the class credible self-protection while conducting exposed amphibious-landing operations.[1]
