The Car Nicobar-class are fast attack craft (interceptor boats) operated by the Indian Navy, providing high-speed coastal patrol, interdiction and limited air-defence capability, with a design emphasis on shallow-draught operations in near-coastal waters.[1]
Car Nicobar-class vessels displace between 293 tons (Fleet I) and 315 tons (Fleet II), measuring 48.9 m in length with a 7.5 m beam and 2.1 m draught. Propulsion is provided by three MTU 16V 4000 M90 diesel engines driving three Hamilton HM811 waterjets, giving a top speed of 35 knots and a range of 2,000 nautical miles at 13 knots. The crew complement is 29, including 6 officers.[1]
The class is armed with a CRN-91 30 mm autocannon, an Igla SA-18 man-portable surface-to-air missile system for self-defence against low-flying aircraft, and two 12.7 mm heavy machine guns, giving it credible firepower for interdiction and coastal-defence roles despite its small size.[1]
