The Talwar-class are stealth guided-missile frigates built for the Indian Navy, an improved derivative of the Russian Krivak III-class design, combining BrahMos supersonic anti-ship strike capability with layered air-defence and anti-submarine systems.[1]
Talwar-class frigates displace 3,850 tonnes standard (4,035 tonnes full load), measuring 124.8 m in length with a 15.2 m beam and 4.2 m draught. They achieve speeds up to 32 knots with a range of 4,850 nautical miles at 14 knots and an endurance of 30 days, carrying a complement of about 180 personnel including 18 officers.[1]
The class is armed with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles for anti-ship/land-attack strike, Shtil surface-to-air missiles for area air defence, and a range of anti-submarine warfare systems, giving it a genuinely multi-role stealth-frigate capability that has made it a mainstay of the Indian Navy’s surface combatant fleet.[1]
