The Kamorta-class are indigenous anti-submarine warfare corvettes built under Project 28 by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the Indian Navy, notable for their extensive use of indigenous stealth-shaping and composite construction.[1]

Design

Kamorta-class corvettes measure 109.1 m in length with a 12.8 m beam, displacing roughly 2,500–3,300 tonnes depending on load. Powered by four Pielstick 12 PA6 STC diesel engines, they reach speeds of 32 knots with an endurance of 3,450 nautical miles at 18 knots, carrying a crew of about 123 including 17 officers and a single embarked helicopter. The class features a high-tensile indigenous-steel hull with a superstructure built from indigenous DMR 249A steel and carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), achieving roughly 90% indigenous content.[1][2]

Armament and Role

Armament includes an OTO Melara 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount, two AK-630M close-in weapon systems, two RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers, and two triple torpedo-tube mounts. While primarily an anti-submarine warfare platform, the class is also employed in anti-surface and limited anti-air roles.[1]
