IBG POSSIBLE COMPOSITION

Since Integrated Battle Group is said to be a formation bigger than a brigade and smaller than a division, an 8+2 combined arms regiment might be a possible configuration with 8 being regular 2 being HQ reserves headed by a Major General rank officer.

It may also differ according to needs and terrain in composition. For example the IBG can be further classified into:

Heavy IBG optimized for armored thrusts comprising

  • 2 x infantry battalions
  • 3 x armor (96 Tanks + 48 BMP)
  • 2 x Artillery (24 Howitzers + 12 MBRL)
  • 1 x AD (Akash, QRSAM,SPAAG mix)   

supported by the following at the IBG HQ

  • 1x helicopter squadron(5 Dhruvs+4 Rudras+3 LCH)
  • 3 x prahar launchers
  • 1 battery of smirch
  • 1 battery of MRSAM
  • 1 company of SF

Mountain IBG

  • 3 x infantry battalions
  • 1x armor (32 BMP + 16 tanks)
  • 3 x Artillery (36 Howitzers+18 MBRLS)
  • 1 x AD (same as in 1)

Supported by IBG HQ with

  • 1x heli squadron (3 LUH + 2 Rudras +4 Dhruv+3 LCH)
  • 1 Prahar battery
  • 1 MBRL battery
  • 1 MRSAM battery
  • 1 SF company

Urban/Jungle IBG

  • 3 x infantry Battalions
  • 2 x armor (80 kestrels + 16 tanks)
  • 2 x Artillery (24 howitzers +12 MBRL)
  • 1 x AD (same as 1)

Supported by IBG HQ with

  • 1x helicopter squadron (4 Rudras+2 Dhruvs+4 LUH+2 LCH)
  • 1 Prahar battery
  • 1 MBRL battery
  • 1 MRSAM battery
  • 1 SF company

Amphibious IBG

  • 3 x infantry battalion
  • 2 x armor (Kestrel + BMP + Tanks)
  • 2 x artillery (howitzer + MBRL, various mix)
  • 1 x  AD (Same as 1)

IBG HQ support

  • 1x heli squadron (4 Dhruv + 3 LUH + 2 Rudras + 3 LCH)
  • 3 additional Rudras+3 LCH
  • 1 MRSAM battery
  • 1 SF company
