The Godrej Offer

India’s leading engineering conglomerate, Godrej, has announced its plans to manufacture components for two advanced engines that will be used in the country’s military aviation programs. The dry Kaveri engine, which is being developed for the Ghatak Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV), and the short turbofan engine for the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) based on Nirbhaya Subsonic Cruise missile.

Nirbhay Missile passes through the Rajpath, on the occasion of the 69th Republic Day Parade 2018, in New Delhi on January 26, 2018.

The dry Kaveri engine has been in development for few years and is a major component of the Ghatak UCAV program. The engine will use advanced technology to provide the UCAV with a high thrust-to-weight ratio and excellent performance at high altitudes. The Ghatak UCAV is a stealth unmanned combat aircraft that will be capable of carrying out a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strike operations.

Godrej’s contribution

Godrej will manufacture critical components for the dry Kaveri engine, including the turbine blade and compressor blade. The company has extensive experience in manufacturing precision aerospace components and has previously supplied components for the BrahMos cruise missile and ISRO’s satellite launch vehicles.

In addition to the dry Kaveri engine, Godrej will also manufacture components for the short turbofan engine that will power the ITCM based on the Nirbhaya Subsonic Cruise missile. The ITCM is being developed to provide the Indian armed forces with a highly advanced long-range cruise missile that can carry out precision strikes against ground targets. The short turbofan engine is a crucial component of the ITCM and will provide the missile with a high level of performance and reliability.

Godrej has been working closely with India’s defence research and development organization (DRDO) to develop the components for both engines. The company has a long-standing relationship with the DRDO and has played a key role in supporting the country’s defence programs.

Self Sufficiency : India’s True North

Godrej’s involvement in the development of these engines is a significant milestone for the Indian aerospace industry. The company’s expertise in manufacturing precision components for aerospace applications will be critical in ensuring the success of these programs. With Godrej’s support, India’s defence programs will be able to achieve greater self-sufficiency and reduce their dependence on foreign suppliers.
