Himshakti is an integrated electronic warfare (EW) system developed for the Indian Army specifically optimised for high-altitude, mountainous terrain such as the Himalayan and Ladakh sectors, where extreme cold, low oxygen levels and line-of-sight-restricted terrain degrade the performance of conventional EW equipment.[1]
On 24 March 2023, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited, Hyderabad, for the procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems under “Project Himshakti,” valued at approximately ₹3,000 crore (around $364 million), part of a broader Indian Army EW modernisation push that also includes the Samyukta and Sambhav systems.[2][3]
Himshakti is engineered for precision signal detection in low-oxygen, freezing environments and mountainous, line-of-sight-restricted terrain where older EW systems have historically underperformed. The system integrates VHF direction-finders and jammers, HF direction-finders and jammers, and standalone jamming units, giving Army formations in high-altitude sectors an organic capability to detect, locate and disrupt enemy communications and electronic emissions.[1][4]
Himshakti directly addresses operational lessons from India’s high-altitude standoffs along the Line of Actual Control, where terrain and climate had previously limited the effectiveness of plains-optimised EW equipment; it forms part of a wider Indian Army push toward AI-assisted “cognitive” electronic warfare capability.[4]
